The course of theoretical grammar is designed for fourth-year students who have a good level of English, elementary knowledge of General Linguistics, advanced knowledge of practical grammar and good reading and communication skills that would make them able to understand and discuss on various linguistic topics and issues.

This course of lectures deals with the study of English grammar from a theoretical point of view. It integrates the results of the most recent linguistic research, and it mostly refers to the study of various problems of the English grammar theory.  

The theoretical lectures are followed by seminars that propose for discussion the analyses of various linguistic opinions. The course is meant for 90 hours: 30 hours of theory, 15 hours of seminars, and 45 hours of individual/ independent work of students. The ending evaluation is carried out during the winter session and it will be an examination in written form.

This course is intended to help students to acquire a global vision of the theories related to English grammar, presenting a comprehensive description of the grammatical structure of the English language and being an introduction to the problems of grammatical studies and methodology of scientific and grammatical analysis of the language.
